The Legend's Post Match Blogs

Never afraid to speak his mind, outspoken and always willing to give an opinion – Dunk “The Legend” gives his forthright post match views here.

"There is no "sitting on the fence" with my blogs - I tell it how it is. Enjoy!
Up The Villa."

2009 - 2010 Blogs

Manchester City 3 - 1 Aston Villa (Premier League) 01 May 2010

Driving away from Eastlands in our coach I was holding my head high - almightily proud to be a Villan and proud of our players again this season. Up the Villa.

Aston Villa 2 - 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers (Premier League) 20 March 2010

With less than 10 minutes remaining Big John Carew saved the day yet again. Heskey held up the ball, laid off to Sidwell who shot from just inside the area. Carew took an important touch to divert beyond Hahnemann.

Aston Villa 1 - 2 Manchester United (Carling Cup Final) 28 February 2010

The Carling Cup dream is over for this year but the FA Cup dream is very much alive. Come on Villa let's get to Wembley again and return triumphant with the FA Cup.

Aston Villa 1 - 1 Manchester United (Premier League) 10 February 2010

Wes Brown and Jonathan Evans were particularly dirty all night and the latter was booked for a nasty late challenge on Stiliyan Petrov. Evans is nothing short of a thug and should not be enjoying the lavishing lifestyle of a Premier League footballer.

Aston Villa 6 - 4 Blackburn Rovers (Carling Cup) 20 January 2010

The referee's whistle signalled the end of this 10-goal classic, Villa's progress to the final and a pitch invasion. We are back where we belong, back at Wembley. 2000 seems a distant memory and let us hope we finish the job and achieve some long-awaited silverware.

Aston Villa 0 - 0 West Ham United (Premier League) 17 January 2010

I was fuming. The referee stopped the match as it was deemed a head injury when we were in a promising position for this blatant cheat. The treatment Behrami received was to his hamstring and not head after all.

Blackburn Rovers 0 - 1 Aston Villa (Carling Cup) 14 January 2010

It will be absolutely amazing to see Villa again at Wembley. Only 90 minutes to go, a draw or a win and we are there in dreamland.

Aston Villa 3 - 1 Blackburn Rovers (FA Cup) 02 January 2010

I was dreading a draw – meaning a replay and playing Blackburn four times in January. Villa's changed team convincingly conquered Rovers in our first encounter this month.

Aston Villa 1 - 0 Stoke City (Premier League) 19 December 2009

Former Villa stopper Thomas Sorensen could only block a Stiliyan Petrov effort from the edge of the area. The ball fell to Gabriel Agbonlahor but somehow the Dane's feet saved the Villa man's effort.

Aston Villa 3 - 0 Hull City (Premier League) 05 December 2009

Ashley Young was taunted by the travelling fans chanting, "You'll never play for England." However the Villa man had the last laugh.

Portsmouth 2 - 4 Aston Villa (Carling Cup) 01 December 2009

2-1 up at half-time and feeling confident more would come. I made a silly bet in the 1st half – if we went two-goals clear I would go topless…it soon became rather colder on the South coast!

Aston Villa 1 - 1 Tottenham (Premier League) 28 November 2009

Within minutes of the start John Carew almost gave us the perfect start. Carew chased down a back-pass to Heurelho Gomes. The Spurs 'keeper was mightily relieved to see his dodgy clearance hit the Norwegian's arm for a fortuitous free-kick.

Burnley 1 - 1 Aston Villa (Premier League) 21 November 2009

After Villa's 5-1 thumping on Bolton before the international break it was hoped this would be the catalyst for pressurising at the top of the league. The largely forgettable match was salvaged by substitute Emile Heskey.

Aston Villa 5 - 1 Bolton Wanderers (Premier League) 07 November 2009

Villa's midfield was dominant. Reo-Coker and Sidwell over-powered and out-fought their counterparts. It was great to see Reo-Coker in his most effective position and playing from the start again.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 - 1 Aston Villa (Premier League) 24 October 2009

Thankfully the final whistle brought the drab performance to a conclusion. Against half-decent opposition today we would have been comfortably beaten.

Aston Villa 2 - 1 Chelsea (Premier League) 17 October 2009

Stiliyan Petrov was immense in Villa's midfield all afternoon and dragged us back into contention. His late bursts into the Chelsea box threatened a Villa equaliser.

Blackburn Rovers 2 - 1 Aston Villa (Premier League) 26 September 2009

Gabby gave the visitors the lead on 3 minutes with what looked like a mis-hit from a James Milner pass inside the penalty area. We, in the away end, hoped this would be the start of a routine and comprehensive victory - nearly 90 minutes later I left the ground totally deflated.

Aston Villa 2 - 0 Portsmouth (Premier League) 19 September 2009

Before the match there were two topics of conversation - the victory against our local rivals and Reo-Coker's training ground 'bust-up' with Martin O'Neill.

Birmingham City 0 - 1 Aston Villa (Premier League) 13 September 2009

From 7 AM we were conducting our own re-match warm-up with beer and bacon baps! Just before 11 we boarded our coach – destination St Andrews (also affectionately known as The Sty!).

Aston Villa vs Wigan Athletic (0-2) (Premier League) 15 August 2009

We were depressed further when a steward told us Carew had gone home before the match – not due to injury but because he was angry that Heskey was picked ahead of him in the starting line-up. Great…the one player who could save this match was not available.

Aston Villa vs Fiorentina (1-0) (Friendly) 08 August 2009

Delph soon became acquainted with his new surroundings with crunching tackles and surging runs...Fiorentina were shaken. Villa's wingers and powerful runs from Delph in the middle had the visitors looking for answers.
