2008 - 2009 Season
Hull City vs Aston Villa (0-1) 30 December 2008
The Villa fans were now celebrating not knowing what was actually happening with all the chaos but the goal-kick gave Friedel the chance to clear. The final whistle signalled another Villa away win and 3 points that see Villa reclaim the fourth league position going into the New Year.
Aston Villa vs Arsenal (2-2) 26 December 2008
Amazing. Absolutely amazing. The football was fantastic from both teams but Villa were awesome. Any other day Villa would have thumped Arsenal by many.
Aston Villa vs Bolton Wanderers (4-2) 13 December 2008
Bolton are always a difficult team to play against but Villa had one very lucky omen in their favour….the curse of the Barclay's Manager of The Month Award with Bolton manager Gary Megson having been awarded this for November the day previous!
Aston Villa vs MSK Zilina (1-2) 04 December 2008
Before tonight's match we had the chance to qualify for the knock-out stages of the UEFA Cup and finish top of the mini league, but the manager's decision to make whole-scale changes to the side back-fired yet again.
Aston Villa vs Fulham (0-0) 29 November 2008
The game was there for the taking and if O’Neill had brought on Harewood I am sure I would be writing this with Villa having recorded 3 points. Our approach was far too negative and wholly uninspiring.
Aston Villa vs Manchester United (0-0) 22 November 2008
Villa were robbed of a penalty as Vidic failed to legally keep up with Agbonlahor so forcibly pulled him down by his shirt. Chris Foy astonishingly bottled this big decision and waved away protests.
Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough (1-2) 09 November 2008
Sadly a cold wet afternoon in Aston soon became even more dreary when Steve Sidwell turned from hero to villain in the space of an hour.
Aston Villa vs Blackburn Rovers (3-2) 29 October 2008
A UEFA Cup win against Ajax, a convincing win against Wigan, surely tonight would just be a routine Villa win at home against Blackburn? Well it was a struggle but a win is a win!
Aston Villa vs Ajax (2-1) 23 October 2008
Martin Laursen met the ball before the floundering ‘keeper Vermeer from an Ashley Young corner on 8 minutes. I celebrated slightly more conservatively than I wanted being mindful of the strangely slippery floor under my feet…well didn’t want to go flying over the railings!
Aston Villa vs Portsmouth (0-0) 18 October 2008
The diving craze spread like the flu in the second period with Papa Bouba Diop happily rolling round at the slightest bit of contact. Is football a man’s sport?
Aston Villa vs Litex Lovech (1-1) 02 October 2008
Ashley Young almost doubled Villa’s lead before half-time with an arrogant dance into the box but only to see his shot creep agonisingly wide.
Harewood too had chances to increase the lead but at half-time Villa were 3 goals to the good on aggregate.
Aston Villa vs Sunderland (2-1) 27 September 2008
After the no-show against QPR in mid-week the home team needed to put in a performance against a stubborn Sunderland team, and they did not disappoint.
Aston Villa vs QPR (0-1) 24 September 2008
For the second season running in the League Cup the Villa team put in a below-par performance and get knocked out of the competition by a Championship club.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool (0-0) 31 August 2008
After the summer-long Gareth Barry transfer fiasco and how Liverpool conducted themselves through the media, today’s match had extra spice added to proceedings.
Aston Villa vs FH Hafnarfjordur (1-1) 28 August 2008
Knight was once again shown to be snail-slow on more than one occasion and I don’t think Barry completed one pass properly all night.
The final whistle was a relief. Relief that this dire match had finished and relief that Villa are now into the UEFA Cup proper.
Stoke City vs Aston Villa (3-2) 23 August 2008
In all fairness Villa were absolutely woeful today and didn't deserve anything from the match. Villa were out-muscled by their hosts...not rocket-science to work out what Stoke's tactics would be. Too many were players off form. Barry looks totally lost at the moment and should be dropped.
Aston Villa vs Manchester City (4-2) 17 August 2008
Elano nonchalantly converted a penalty. Would Manchester City now go onto win the match? Villa seemed deflated and City were in the ascendancy. Time for Agbonlahor to spring into action.
Aston Villa vs Odense BK (1-0) 26 July 2008
Late July perfect time to catch the rays, enjoy the beach, do some gardening? No it’s Intertoto time at Villa Park!
